Steal this palette!

I love the colors in the image above.....the very soft blue/green contrasts with the bright red and gold.I tried 2 different designs with the same palette just for fun.....

Steal this palette!

I really love the color combo in the still life above.....the cobalt blues and terra-cotta are so complimentary.I made color swatches in photoshop and used the samples to make the colorway for the design above.....This is an idea I'll explore more in coming posts.

This is unabashedly feminine. It"s a little reminiscent of a doily or lace.

I seem to be drawn to motifs on a white background.Perhaps because the purity of the white contrasts perfectly more ornate and colorful motifs which I favor.I think it also lends a more contemporary feel overall.....

More blue love....this in a straight repeat, although perhaps it would have been better suited to a half drop?Any thoughts?

vintage french fabric

I love the dainty motifs and soft colors of these vintage french textiles found on flickr, the top picture courtesy of hbgordon, and the last 4 from petits details.I try to take note of design details I'm attracted to (and not), especially the size of decorative elements, repeats, ground colors and design etc.Lots to learn from these old fabrics....

spanish dress

These are beautiful pochoir prints of traditional spanish folk costumes from the 1920's.I love the layers of vibrant colors and the floral details.Pochoir prints are a precurser to modern screen prints:multiple layers of color are added to a lithograph, giving a wonderful, vibrant look. These prints are available for sale here.

Pattern of the day

In the spirit of our "indian theme" today, here's my version of a sari design...This is one of my soon to be available textiles.

Sari border inspiration

For me,these saris are addictive eye candy.

sari border inspiration: Act 2

I have always been a big fan of indian textiles.I love the jewelled colors, metallic embellishments and the detailed designs found in sari borders.Yummy hues.....
